Final Days

Yesterday I had the epiphany that in just under two weeks, I'll be a college graduate. Like, what? This is the moment the my entire life has been leading up to, something that's seemed so far away, and all of a sudden, it's here. By Memorial Day, I'll be able to say that I'm a college graduate.

I admit, the idea of graduating from college completely terrifies me. School is all I've ever known, and now I'm faced with the prospect of heading out into the big, bad world. Not only that, but I'm going off into it alone, because once graduation comes, all my friends are spreading out again.

On a much less scary note, this is one of my go-to, "I don't know what to wear" outfits (which is why I didn't include it in this post). It's easy to throw on, and I feel like it looks like I put a little bit more thought into my outfit than I actually did. And it works pretty much year-round, which is nice. All I have to do is switch out my shoes to something slightly more rain-proof.

Chambray Shirt: Pull & Bear. Dress: Forever 21. Belt: Kohl's (Came With a Shirt).
Leggings: Pimkie. Shoes: TOMS.
Fun fact: This dress used to be my friend's, but she never wore it, and another friend and I would steal it all the time. Finally she just gave it to me for my birthday this past year. It's definitely gotten a lot of wear since then. Unfortunately, it feels too short too wear without leggings underneath. I originally wore it with tights underneath but I felt too self-conscious, so I started just wearing it with leggings instead.

Sometimes I wonder how people who are a normal height wear dresses from Forever 21, because they're always a good length (or even too short, like this dress) on me, and I'm not a tall person by any stretch of the imagine.

Magical Monday

It's the first day of Dead Week at my school today, so needless to say, it's crunch time. I'll be spending most of this week writing papers and working on projects. But first I need to study for an early final tomorrow (part one, the second part is during Finals Week)... It's crazy to think that it's so close to graduation!

The list:

1. My Mom. You had to expect this, since Mother's Day was yesterday. But really, I have an amazing mom, and she means the world to me. I don't know what I'd do without her.

2. Finishing my capstone presentation. I also mentioned this yesterday, but I had my capstone presentation this afternoon. I think overall, it went pretty well. I got a couple tough questions, but people said  I answered them pretty well (though they're a little biased, since I asked my mom and my friend).

3. Good music. I've been organizing all my starred songs into playlists on Spotify, and I made one that's perfect for studying too.

4. Running. Kind of. Motivated by my recent less-than-satisfactory performance at my school's color run, I went on a run/jog on Saturday. While I wasn't a fan of the actual "running" part (I spent most of it running so slowly I could walk faster because I felt like I was about to die), I do love the feeling of accomplishment that you get once you're done. I want to keep it up, because I feel like it'll be a good way to relieve stress during the last couple weeks of school. And, y'know, I want to get in shape. I really like the idea of running, I'm just not to the point where I'm in shape enough to enjoy it.

5. Once Upon a Time. The season finale was last night, and ohmygosh. It was so intense. I watched part of it with a roommate, but then she had to leave, so I spent the rest of it frantically texting her. It's one of my favorite shows, and I swear each episode gets better and better. They can do no wrong. On a related note, they're supposedly making a spin-off set in Wonderland?

Mother's Day

I don't get to see my mom today, but I bought her a little gift that I'll give to her tomorrow after my capstone, which she was nice enough to take time off work to come see. It's my presentation portion of my university's equivalent of a senior project, so I'm glad she could come see it.

Don't forget to call your mom and tell her you love her today. Or give her a big hug if you get to see her in person today.

I've spent most of the evening working on a huge paper. So naturally, I wish I was anywhere but cooped up in my room writing. While I don't have any plans for summer other than getting a job, that's not going to stop me from dreaming of far-off places with an abundance of sunshine and beaches.

Don't feel too bad for me, though, I haven't been stuck inside all day. My school's annual street festival was today.

City Dreams

new york city, nyc, new york, city life, romanticization

Lately, I've been daydreaming about having my own apartment in the city. It would be in a cute neighborhood, with lots of little cafes and boutiques, and I would be able to walk around easily. "The city" in this case is Seattle. But one day I would love if it was New York or San Francisco, or possibly L.A.

Either way, I tend to get these grand, romanticized notions of what life will be like in my head. I imagine that if I move to the right neighborhood, all of a sudden, things will fall into place. I'll meet a great group of friends, we'll have regular hang out places, and things will all be wonderful.

And the thing is, I don't limit my romanticizing to cities. I do it to virtually everything. Coffee is another example. It's something that I want to like (I'm getting there), because I associate coffee with people who are busy and always on-the-go (and high-maintenance). Conversely, when drunk in a cafe, I associate it with socializing with a friend, catching up after a long time apart. Or maybe with writers, typing away on their latest novel.

I tend to fall in love with the idea of things. The problem with that is that life isn't always like a movie. That's not reality. While yes, this can be bad and lead to disappointment, I don't mind it. So long as it's done in moderation, and with the recognition of the fact that life isn't a movie, I think a little romanticization is fine. It helps to keep life beautiful.

Girl Crush: Miranda Kerr

I don't really know how it happened, but one day I was just like, "Wow, Miranda Kerr is gorgeous." I think it was a gradual accumulation of seeing pictures of her all over the internet. But once I had this realization, the girl crush ensued.

I like how sweet her face is, how innocent. It makes her seem so much more relatable to me than a lot of other models. Because of this, I've decided to use beauty shoots for this feature. I just think Miranda is absolutely stunning.

(These pictures also just go to show that Miranda can seriously rock a red lip.)

I also think she seems like she's genuinely a nice person. She cares about treating others right, and I feel like she also prefers to focus on inner-beauty and health as a source of happiness rather than her physical appearance, even if that's technically how she earns her living as a model.

I even forgive Miranda for marrying Orlando Bloom (one of my great loves from junior high). They seem so happy together, and come on. They are gorgeous. Their child is going to grow up to be so attractive.

Miranda, can we please be friends?

Also,  I love her hair, though you can't see it in any of these pictures.

The first two photos were from a photo shoot for designer David Jones Spring 2011 Catalog. I couldn't find the sources of the other two, so please let me know if you know where they're from.

I feel like I should note that I'm not super into the Victoria's Secret Angels, and I've only seen the show once, so my love of Miranda isn't really influenced by the fact she used to be an Angel.

My Heart Skips a Beat

These are the pants I was talking about. I am obsessed with them. The full-body photos don't do them justice (don't worry, there's a close-up shot). Not only are they adorable , but they are so soft! I can't stop touching them. I love it.

I originally wasn't planning on wearing them until next week but it was so cloudy this morning, I figured I would be safe with pants today. I am so glad I didn't have to wait. I hate when I get something new, but then I have to wait to wear it.

It was the worst when I was younger if I bought something over summer and decided it was for back to school, so then I wouldn't be able to wear it until September. I was convinced that I had to save it, because it wouldn't be as special if I wore it for the first time over summer.

I am seriously obsessed with the heart print on these pants! I also like how small the print is. From far away, it just looks like polka dots, but then once you get close you realize that it's little hearts!

Tank Top: Target. Jeggings: Fred Meyer. Shoes: Target.
Hearts are one of my all-time favorite patterns, so when I saw these pants I knew I had to have them. I got lucky that they're technically jeggings, since I had to go down a size, but the stretchiness makes up for it and they fit perfectly.
